There is nothing to indicate these are IDN ( Albeit fake)

Click on them, still nothing to indicate the scam!

Of course people are getting fooled and Sedo simply do not care

Sedo’s answer!

If the client clicks directly on the domain name, he/she will see the following“Important Notice: This is an Internationalized Domain (IDN). Technically the domain is (followed by the code).

We do make our customers aware of these names. Every seller is eligible to sell any domain which is available for transfer if he or she would like to at Sedo, as long as they do not violate our terms and conditions.
There a demand for these IDN domains and they do sell successfully.    Wink
With the details provided, we do hope that all our buyers are informed to know which type of domains that they are bidding on.”

This was a reply I received from Sedo.

In other words we have put a basic explanation and after that we simply don’t care!

How can there possibly be a demand for 4 week old fake IDN when there is no demand for real IDN?

This is simply a money grab and confirmation that domain auction sites, even the premier ones, will do anything for a $. Times are hard.

Perhaps Sedo etc should be taking an ethical look at their terms and conditions.

By the way there is a demand for fake watches, bags etc and they do sell successfully. It is however illegal.

For my sins I have complied a list of the crap IDN on Sedo etc. I have the Whois of current owner and I will check with the new owners, should auctions complete, if they knew what they were buying. From past experience they did not.

However, if they do confirm that they knew what they were buying I will give in to my nearly 3 score years and ten and wish the sickly domain industry well. If they did not, which I suspect they did not, I will kick ass. (As I do care).

What DomainNameSales.com are not doing to protect domainers.

What DomainNameSales.com are not doing to protect domainers

Newbies are normally the ones who get caught with this it does not matter what the warning may be, they see only what they want to see. But at least Sedo do show a notice that the name is IDN.

DomainNameSales.com on the other hand do not, just cut and paste these!

Youxí.com

Credít.com

Nínja.com

(there are many more!)

I have contacted DomainNameSales.com 5 times with no response, tweeted FS twice, no response.

Considering they are supposed to have a name vetting procedure they have failed miserably.

The world’s biggest bunglers do it again! -Sedodo

http://www.circleid.com/posts/20131204_tld_registry_partners_sedo_dot_chinese_online_dot_chinese_website/

Leading fully-Chinese internet domain name TLDs to partner with global leader in premium domain name auctions.

TLD Registry Ltd, the leading internet domain name registry for fully-Chinese domain names, today announced it has contracted with Sedo for its upcoming premium domain names program.

Valuable and sought-after fully-Chinese domain names in the Dot Chinese Online (.在线) and Dot Chinese Website (.中文网) top level domains (TLDs) will become publicly available via Sedo on the opening day of the Landrush period, set to occur on Thursday March 20, 2014.

Expressions of interest for premium domain names and portfolios of domain names are invited from today. TLD Registry’s chairman, Taneli Tikka said, “There has been strong interest in premium domain names in the essential new Chinese TLDs, Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website, since we announced our program in Beijing in April this year. We invite brands, businesses and investors to consider how they might benefit from our valuable fully-Chinese domain names, and to contact our brokerage partner Sedo to discuss their options.”

The registry’s CEO, Arto Isokoski added, “While ICANN rules forbid firm contracting of any domain names prior to the Landrush period, we urge interested parties to contact Sedo to explore once-in-a-lifetime branding, business and investment opportunities.”

TLD Registry’s CMO, Simon Cousins said, “Our approach to our premium domain names program is as innovative as our go-live program and our foundation partners program. I think that the domain name and digital marketing industries will be startled and excited by the uniquely different way we’ve constructed our premium names program.”

“Non-English-language generic TLDs are brand new to the internet” said Sedo CEO, Tobias Flaitz. “With Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website in particular, there are thousands of multi-national companies looking to tap into the booming Chinese economy, not to mention the businesses operating in Chinatown sections of nearly every major city around the world. By using these new domain names, companies gain instant credibility within Chinese markets and show a respect for the local language and culture. With Sedo’s global presence and expertise, we can help make sure these new domains get into the hands of the right people.”

Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website will join the internet on Friday January 17, with a “trademark-owners only” Sunrise period, concluding on Monday March 17. Both the start and end days of Sunrise fall on highly auspicious days for “starting new businesses” in the ancient Chinese almanac.

Premium domain names will become publicly tradable on the global Sedo platform on the first day of the Landrush period, Thursday March 20, which is an auspicious day for “breaking ground”. As the introduction of Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website is analogous to the opening of valuable new tracts of internet real estate in the Chinese-speaking world, launching Landrush on a lucky day for breaking ground is highly resonant in the China region.

A hybrid live and internet auction of some of the most valuable and sought-after domain names in Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website will be held in Macau one day later, on Friday 21 March.

The Landrush period will run conclude on Thursday April 24, with general availability of domain names in Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website opening on Monday 28 April, 2014 (a highly auspicious date for “starting new businesses” and “grand openings”).

Minor changes to the go-live schedule may be required by ICANN, however TLD Registry is confident that the milestones will be achieved on the set dates. Global internet domain name infrastructure provider Afilias is responsible for the technical integrity of Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website.

Informational microsites on the Sedo global platform are now live: for Dot Chinese Online in English, please visit http://www.sedo.com/us/new-gtlds/dot-chinese-online-gtld/ or follow the Chinese link on that page for the Mandarin version. For Dot Chinese Website in English, please visit http://www.sedo.com/us/new-gtlds/dot-chinese-website-gtld/ or follow the Chinese link on that page for the Mandarin version.

But you still cannot park, buy or sell well established Chinese extensions like .中国,.公司.网络,.香港 on Sedodo, I wonder if their new partners know that!

A new way to type t & h!

Paul Mathis has a problem – the amount of time we waste typing out THE, the most frequently used word in the English language.

So he has invented a new symbol for use on our keyboards: Ћ.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23270758

A combination of T and H – and dubbed the “tap” because of its shape – Paul hopes the letter will make typing more efficient.

An Australian man named Paul Mathis says he has invested more than $38,000 in a mobile app that will introduce the world to “Ћ” in hopes of it replacing the word “the”. Do we really need a special symbol for a three letter word – “and” got one!

What has this got to do with domain names?

IDN

It is in fact from the Cyrillic alphabet and is Serbian Cyrillic letter Ћ ћ  “Tshe” somewhat like the pronunciation of <ch> in “chew”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tshe

Sorry Paul a few hundred years too late!

If you owned the real versions? And what are “fluders”?

What would you be thinking now that the fake versions are being openly advertised for sale on a major well established domain forum?

Personally I would be thinking legal action as these are plainly phishing domains copying my hard earned and valuable internet real estate. The action I guess would be against both and the seller and the forum as they are well established enough to know what they should and should not allow on their platform and the seller has been prevented from selling on other venues which is a matter of record.

Below are just some of the fake ads the seller is using to justify his garbage. If you know any of the owners of the real deal names point them here,or if you feel inclined email them and point them here and don’t forget to tweet!

We have now named these crap domains “fluders” in honor of the guy who has them plastered in many venues.

So if you see any “fluders” please let us know.

ADD.com cheap on DNForum.com- well not really -ᗅᗞᗞ.com more crap!

For the life of me I fail to see how an established high profile forum like DNForum.com continues to allow these dreadful excuses for domain names to be sold openly when even the layman can see they are just complete garbage. http://www.dnforum.com/f525/com-idn-domain-thread-491857.html#post2117542

Even the seller unwittingly explains how useless they are:

Canadian syllabics letters. You can’t use with your keyboard, the only way is to copy and paste ᗅᗞᗞ.com in your browser.

Do you want to perform your ᗅᗞᗞ business ?

ᗅᗞᗞ.com increases dramatically your clicks number. ᗅᗞᗞ.com is eye-catcher, meaning more memorable letters than anything else, getting your identity and standing out from the masses.

ᗅᗞᗞ.com is 100% compatible with Google Adwords, because Google accepts all letters from every languages.

Ideal complement to your main domain, moreover it can be used in Ad banner or email advertising !

EMAÍL.com on Sedo more crap

Actually Sedo.com describe the name quite reasonably as an IDN

Details:

EMAÍL.COM

Domain Name without content.

** This domain contains special non-English characters (i.e. “ä”,”ö”,”ü”,”á”,”é”, “í”) and is an Internationalized Domain (IDN). Please note that even if the signs in this domain name appear like regular signs, the domain may not be always reachable by typing in the name, due to browser limitations on IDN names and user setup. The domain can be reached by typing in: xn--emal-xpa.com

So why post it here?

Well the sellers description is:

Offer Description

Email.com  this is the real deal so obviously fraudulent.

Meet the seller

Country of origin:

United States

Value added Tax (VAT) status:

Not Applicable

Sedo community member since:

You can get his name from whois if you find you have bought this pile of garbage in error.

Post at Namepros buried by the mods! ЅМЅ.com +

Mods have a difficult time of it on most forums and sometimes get it wrong. This thread at Namepros is part of an going problem with scammers using IDN code to produce domain names that look like ASCII and compounding it with obvious shill bids at online domain name auctions sites to draw in newbies and the unwary-and it works.

http://www.namepros.com/thread-graveyard/749442-subjot.html

This particular guy originally posted these at Namepros.com

іе.com
СЈ.com
ІЈ.com
ііі.com
іОЅ.com
ЅМЅ.com
РЅР.com

No punycode was shown! Amazed

This was what the mod considered good reason to remove posts warning others and pointing out to the seller that the names were crap!

Reason: This is a marketplace sales thread & the section clearly states idn, Thread Crashing coments removed -Again, no sign of a punycode!

Very recently registered using IDN punycode to create names that look like premium ASCII by substituting Cyrillic letters for standard Romanized. It was pointed out to him what a pile of garbage they were and he basically agreed, now plainly obvious that he had other options and they were provided by Sedo. Namepros then closed the thread preventing him from selling them there.

Then this happened:

http://monikerblog.com/?p=458

Then this happened

http://monikerblog.com/?p=535

Sadly,by burying this and related threads the people who have been perpetrating this have been given the green light to go ahead and screw a few more people.

http://www.namepros.com/idn-domains-for-sale/749442-subjot.html#post4291341

I am however guessing that the real concerns in dumping the threads are more about the forums liabilities if what I have posted leaves then open to any litigation than concerns about the welfare of members, cynical I know but probably true!

Sedo-this is not correct in relation to IDN- Please revise.

We have had numerous contacts referring to Sedo’s incorrect description of IDN domains names and how they may be accessed.

One of our contacts has given us permission to post an open letter to Sedo.com.

Here it is:

Dear Sedo team,

I just noticed that you changed your IDN warning on Sedo sales pages to the following:

„Please note that even if the signs in this domain name appear like regular signs, the domain can only be reached by typing in: XN–….com.“

This note is misleading and plain wrong.

Potential buyers must get the impression that all IDN characters were somewhat „irregular“. This is wrong. All IDN characters used in my domain names are „IDNA2008“ compatible and thus perfectly regular according to ICANN. You’re welcome to check and prove me wrong.

Furthermore it is implied that my domain names appear as something different from what they are. My domain names appear exactly as what they are: IDNs in native scripts and languages.

Finally you claim that the domain names can only be reached by typing the punycode (xn--…). Once again this is plain wrong. All my names can be typed directly via native keyboards without the punycode. Actually this is the whole point of IDN: Enabling a non-English speaking audience to access domain names in their own language or script. What do you think where my type-in traffic comes from? People typing-in the punycode? Even domain professionals don’t know what this is. (http://morganlinton.com/xn-iilanlari…-daddy-really/ ) Let alone average internet users.

I know there were a few complaints about (mainly cyrillic names) that look like English / Latin script ones which is probably why you changed the IDN warning. A few notes regarding this issue:

1) Only a fraction off IDNs is actually affected by this.

2) It is almost self-evident that those look-alike name auctions were kicked off by shill bids.

2) Most offer descriptions were highly misleading (selected language: English, ASCII domain names in the description text).

4) Many of those names appeared in Sedo’s „featured domains“ list without any hint of them being IDN.

5) Some scam names even got five to six figure appraisals by Sedo’s appraisal tool.

6) Almost all of those names belong to the same 2 or 3 sellers. It would be easy to ban their accounts after a few complaints. Instead they were even allowed to auction their names again and again after buyers refused to pay.

(See http://monikerblog.com/ for details)

As you can see there’s plenty of options to prevent scam auctions on Sedo without marking all IDNs as potentially fraudulent. Wouldn’t you need to put up a warning sign on all domain names because SP0RTS.COM looks similar to SPORTS.COM? Why don’t you do it? Because it would be undue? My point exactly.

I don’t mind an IDN warning for those who are not familiar with the concept. What I do mind is a warning which is misleading and wrong at best and damaging business at worst. I dislike that perfectly generic and regular domain names get discredited for no reason. Remember that you are supposed to advertise them (That’s what I’m paying commissions for) not to bash them.

A correct description would be something like this:
„This is an internationalized domain name (IDN) which contains (one or more) non-ASCII characters.“

Mentioning the script involved would be even better, i.e.: „This is an IDN using cyrillic script.“

The current warning is the worst possible one since

* Buyers are not informed correctly

* Sellers may be affected negatively

* Sedo’s expertise in the domain name business appears questionable.

All this should not be in your interest. So please stop spreading misinformation about my domain names.

Note: I will publish this mail and any response in public domain name forums.

Kind Regards,
F N

We have now named these crap domains “fluders” in honor of the guy who has them plastered in many venues.

So if you see any “fluders” please let us know.

I think it would have made some sort of noise if it had completed?

Maybe you saw it on “featured domains” with a $10K selling price?

i don’t quite remember what type of auction it was, but i give great domains auction the benefit of the doubt since that’s the auction i look at most of the time…

the price, it’s definitely in the ten thousand range….. i remember thinking, the bidder is definitely bidding on this thinking it’s “car.com”instead of “·car.com”…..

also, i made a quick whois checkup; guess who it belongs to…..
